Swift Referrals Join RCVS Practice Standard Scheme

We are delighted to announce that Swift Referrals is now part of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Practice Standard Scheme (PSS).

We decided to join the voluntary scheme as we felt it was important to show our commitment to encouraging and maintaining the highest standards of veterinary care.

What is the RCVS Practice Standard Scheme (PSS)?

The scheme fosters collaboration as it encourages the team to identify and implement strategies for continuous improvement in the long term.

It also provides a structured approach to running a practice, ensuring all team members are aligned with processes and standards.

To have this accreditation is a well-recognised mark of excellence, not only as a veterinary hospital but as a small animal emergency service clinic.

The assessment process

Once a veterinary practice applies to the RCVS PSS, it undergoes a thorough initial assessment by experienced veterinary surgeons who act as assessors. The process includes an initial assessment, where the assessor visits the practice to evaluate various aspects. This includes ensuring that documentation meets the required standards and that facilities and equipment are of a high standard and well-maintained. The assessor will also speak with members of the team to gauge their understanding and commitment to practice standards.

Following the assessment, the practice receives a detailed report summarising their findings, including any advisory actions. Once the practice addresses any required actions, it is awarded the relevant accreditation.

Following the initial assessment, practices are reassessed every four years. In addition, random spot checks may occur during this period to ensure continued compliance with the standards. This structured approach not only promotes high-quality care but, also helps practices to maintain a commitment to continuous improvement.
